From the Homily
Of Father Jose

“Light of Faith”

In today’s gospel, Jesus gave not only external sight, but also internal sight to the beggar.  This caused the people in the town to challenge him, because the traditional belief was that human handicap and illness were punishments from God for sins. People believed that the punishments could be the result of one’s parents sin or their own.  So the disciples asked:  “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents? (John 9:2)”.  Jesus did not blame him or his parents.  This obvious miracle in the restoration of sight shows the glory and power of God.

The real miracle for the blind man was not that he could see the world; but that he was able see to his own sins and the true nature of the people around him. He gained inter-sight from Jesus to see the jealousy among his neighbors, the hypocrisy in the leaders and the fear of his parents.  But instead of fighting with them, he believed in Jesus’ teaching and glorified him.  He said to Jesus:  “I do believe, Lord” and bowed down to worship him (John 9:38).

When we are not in the state of grace, we are spiritually blind.  That is why we cannot find good in our neighbors.  Instead, we look for bad things.  We criticize people or talk behind their back. We cause great damage to our brothers and sisters. These sins violate the eighth commandment, which says: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”.

When we are jealous, angry and uncharitable we cannot see the good in people. We cannot see the internal beauty of our brothers and sisters.  Lent is a good time to pray for the restoration of our internal sight so we can see goodness in others and rejoice with them.  We need to walk in the light of faith, the light of the Easter fire, which will dispel the darkness. “Lord, open our internal sight, so that we may see the goodness of the people and glorify you.”

           News From Father Jose

Healing Mass Saturday, April 5th

Our next healing Mass will be Saturday, April 5th.  Those who are looking for the healing of soul, mind and body are welcome to attend this special Eucharistic Healing Ministry at 5:00 p.m.

Don’t Get Caught in these Little Sins!

Pride is a sly one with many disguises. We see it often in our neighbor but it is overlooked in our self.

Exaggeration is closely related to pride. Exaggeration may seem small but looking at all that goes beyond the truth is closely related to a lie.

Discouragement we fall victim to this one when things go wrong or answer to our prayer is not immediate.

Doubt and Fear these cannot dwell where faith is for they are contrary to one another.

Worry seems necessary when things go wrong, but in reality it is unbelief in our trust in God and Impatience should not be nurtured as it may terminate in anger.

Spring  Fest Meeting

Our Spring Fest is April 11th and April 12th. We will have a weekly meeting at  7:00 p.m. in the church hall every Wednesday beginning  March 5th until the Spring Fest. This is one of the largest fund raising projects for the parish.  Everyone’s support and prayers are needed for a successful event.

        Why do we need Lent?

The purpose of Lent is to prepare Christians for the celebration of the passion, death and resurrection of Christ.

This is done through prayer, fasting, penance and spiritual exercises such as Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Rosary, Stations of the Cross, The Divine Mercy Chaplet and reading the Bible.

During this Holy season the church shows us Our Lord in the desert and His public ministry.  We are shown how to prepare ourselves for a Glorious Easter.
