EWTN -- Palm Sunday

From the Homily
Of Father Jose

“Hosanna to the King of Kings”

The crowd, after seeing miracles such as giving sight to the blind, expelling demons and raising the dead, wanted to make Jesus their king.  They spread their cloaks on the road and some carried branches from the trees.  They shouted with joy:  “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Matthew 21:9).  They found that Jesus was not an ordinary man.  They regarded him as their protector.  So, they wanted to make him their king.

Today, let us acknowledge Christ as our God and King.  Let us shout our praises and loyalty to Christ.  Unfortunately, some of us are not loyal to him.  Many are here today only to receive the palms.  Some people will not come to any Holy Week services such as Holy Thursday Mass or Good Friday services.  These are very important events of the Holy Week celebrations. These ceremonies during Passion Week prepare us and lead us to the triumph of Easter.

We can choose to be loyal to Christ our king or disloyal to Him.  Jesus will reward all who are faithful to Him.  Our faithfulness during Holy Week will be a good sign of our faithfulness to Christ at all times.  Jesus suffered and died for us, he took our place.  What a sacrifice he made for us!  Why can’t we offer sacrifices for our Lord especially during this Holy Week?  By attending all Holy Week services we can show our love and gratitude to our God and King.  Let us go forth in Peace, praising Jesus our Messiah, as did the crowd who welcomed Him to Jerusalem.  “Jesus, you are our King, help us to be faithful to you all the days of our life.”

                                                      Amen
